As winter slowly creeps upon us it is now getting time to start looking for that new parka, jacket, sweater, whatever it may be that we choose to keep us warm during the cold winter months. Contrary to popular belief it is not what cost the most that works the best. Included in this article is clothing choices for men, women & children based on there effectiveness both in use & cost.
Coming in at the top of the list are items from two (2) companies that i am very familiar with there backgrounds, use and functionality of there items. (us army guys tend to test things harder then they claim to be able to hold up to). Number one on my list goes to Carhartt www.carhartt.com though a little steep in the store nearest you, they have better deals at there website. Carhartt has some of the best winter clothing as far as durability, function, fit, and price. And they have them in styles ranging from out to work on the farm to the high class business man. The best coat from them would have to be the Arctic- quilt lined coats (style #103) and they start and $105 and they are worth EVERY single cent. I have had one that was given to me by a family member when i was younger and i have been outside in the snow at 20 F and sweating in it. Absolute hands down winner for the overall usage factor. For all you high class business men out there Carhartt has you covered as well, just as warm and every bit as stylish as the suit your wearing with the Blanket lined coats (style # C02) starting at $85 and in different colors to match your attire. These all are available in regular and big and tall sizes as well. Next up in the number two spot comes the US Army with several items to choose from. Most of these item can be obtained from www.uscav.com . However i will inform you that as Army personal myself the Army systems are meant to be used in a layer format and if not used that way they will not work as well. Now after stating that i would have to say that the TRU-SPEC fleece jacket is a wonderful wonderful choice (wish they would have issued me one) And for $19.99 you cant beat it. ( NOTE this is only a piece to a system identified as the Gen I H20 ECWCS (extreme cold weather clothing system) PLEASE DO NOT BUY THE WHOLE SYSTEM as you will not be able to move all that well and might end up looking like the michellen tire man in camo..again personal experience, and its rather exspensive) My second choice only because of the price would be the Polartec fleece that is issued to us but at a cheap price of $89 and up that all becomes your choice and the information on where they can be purchased from can be found at www.polartec.com . Now onto the Ladies, ladies i apologize ahead of time I'm not a very stylish person so please forgive me.
Ladies i would have to say that www.landsend.com and carhartt have the two most price efficient options out there with of course all the colors to choose from. Of course if you are willing to pay a little more there are other options available too. Some other good choices are available at www.basspro.com , www.cabelas.com there are plenty more to choose from and don't forget those local stores either, that goes for you too guys. As we all well know that as the colder months get there the prices go up, so don't be shy about that after thanksgiving day sale or just shopping on line, most of the larger stores do have an actual store somewhere near you to go if you order online so please bear that in mind when you decide to shop for these ever so essential items.
And last and most important the kids, Now these guys have it the best there are so many choices to choose from as far as designs, makers for those of you who have designer conscious kids of any age. Again don't forget your local stores. Some other GREAT options are of course the ones listed above they all have great choices for children of any age. And for the really little ones Oshkosh B'gosh has great stuff www.oshkoshbgosh.com but they do not have an online option that i see. So as far as somewhere that has online to look and an actual store i would have to say that burlington coat factories would be the best bet www.burlingtoncoatfactory.com and this goes for everyone not just the kids. Well i hope this helps and i hope that you all stay warm this winter and happy holidays
